Tavera

The Chevrolet Tavera is a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) that was widely used in India for both private and commercial purposes. It was offered in various seating configurations such as 7-seater, 9-seater, and 10-seater layouts, making it a popular choice for families, fleet operators, and taxi services. The Tavera was known for its spacious interior, durable build, and decent ride comfort, especially over long distances.

Under the hood, the Tavera was powered primarily by a 2.5-litre turbo diesel engine, delivering around 80 PS of power and 171 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. Some variants also featured a 2.0-litre TCDi diesel engine producing up to 105 bhp and 264 Nm of torque. All variants were rear-wheel-drive and there were no automatic transmission options offered. The vehicle had a fuel tank capacity of around 55 litres and offered a mileage of approximately 12 to 13.6 km/l, depending on the variant and driving conditions.

In terms of dimensions, the Tavera measured approximately 4,435 mm in length, 1,680 mm in width, and 1,765 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,685 mm and a ground clearance of around 185 mm. The kerb weight was close to 1,660 kg, and the vehicle provided ample luggage space in addition to its multiple seating configurations. The seating was typically arranged in layouts like 2+3+2 (7-seater), 2+3+4 (9-seater), and 3+3+4 (10-seater), depending on the variant.

The Tavera featured basic interiors with fabric upholstery, a simple dashboard layout, and roof-mounted AC vents for rear passengers. Higher variants came with features like body-colored bumpers, chrome accents, alloy wheels, and captain seats. However, in terms of safety, the Tavera lacked modern equipment such as ABS or airbags, offering only basic features like seatbelts, child safety locks, front disc brakes, and side impact beams.

The vehicle was available in several trims over the years, including Base, Neo, Neo2, and the later Neo3 LS and LT variants, with incremental features and comfort levels. The ex-showroom price during its production ranged from ₹5.9 lakh to ₹11.5 lakh, depending on the variant. The Tavera was eventually discontinued in India in late 2017, mainly due to its inability to meet updated safety and emission norms.

In summary, the Chevrolet Tavera was a reliable and spacious MUV with strong appeal in the commercial and utility sectors. While it lacked modern features and safety technologies, it earned a reputation for ruggedness, comfort, and cost-effective operation.
